RUSSIA SAMARA Oblast

Samara Oblast (Russian: Сама́рская о́бласть, Samarskaya oblast) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). It is located in the Volga Federal District. The administrative center is the city of Samara. During the Russian Revolution of 1905 it was home to the short-lived Stary Buyan Republic. Area: 53,600 km²; population: 3,239,737 (according to the 2002 Census).In the Soviet Union it was known as Kuybyshev Oblast, after the Soviet name, Kuybyshev, of Samara.
